Seiko Launches New Astron

Seiko is taking the Astron to the next level with the newest version. The one that was launched in 2012 as the world’s first solar watch with GPS. For the latest edition, Seiko created a completely new caliber 5X. It offers even more functionality to the seasoned world traveler with a thinner profile. The new Astron measures 42.9 mm in diameter and 12.2 mm in height.

Thanks to its new movement the Astron now has an improved GPS connection, and is easier to operate as well. The new caliber automatically adjusts to Daylight Saving Time. Travelers can choose if they want the home time on the main dial instead of the local time.

Given all its functions the dial of the Astron remains very legible under all circumstances. Seiko also reworked the clasp, increasing the wearing comfort by introducing micro-adjustments. Which can easily be done by the owner, so that they can, for example, compensate for warmer weather. It features a perpetual calendar and is of course very precise no matter what time zone you are in or traveling to. Thanks to its GPS connection it delivers the precision of an atomic clock, meaning that it will only be off 1 second every 100.000 years!

The author 0024 Editorial Team

When we started publishing our first high-end watch magazine in 1999, we had only one intention: increasing the popularity of high-quality mechanical watches. Now, many years later, this has not changed at all. In 2017 we have reinvented ourselves to serve our readers in a different and better way. Starting in 2017, the new 0024 is again better equipped to interact with the changing world of high-end watches. The new 0024 HORLOGES magazine (written in Dutch) will be at least a 200 pager: that’s twice the volume of our magazine in the old days.
