IWC Reaches New Heights With Expanding Pilot’s Collection

IWC Big Pilot Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition 'Le Petit Prince'

It takes a while before the SIHH, but IWC has announced a significant expansion of their collection of pilot’s watches already. Three new watches will join the line-up, which includes some interesting innovations.

First up is the most complicated of the three: the Big Pilot Constant-Force Tourbillon Edition ‘Le Petit Prince’. This watch pays tribute to the iconic children’s book in a complicated way, as it combines a constant-force tourbillon with a perpetual moon phase display. The movement is captured in an oversized, 46.2 mm large 18 carat gold case, which offers a beautiful contrast with the blue dial.

Compared to this the new Pilot’s Watch Chronograph Spitfire may seem rather common, yet this too brings an interesting addition to the collection by means of its bronze case. It gives one of the most well-known pilot chronographs a completely different look, which will only get more interesting with age as it acquires its unique patina. A titanium case back ensures increased wearing comfort, while the clean dial makes reading the time a breeze.

With the Pilot’s Watch Double Chronograph Top Gun Ceratanium the rattrapante returns to this collection. With its ton-sur-ton colors, the watch stands out by not standing out at all. The case has been made by the proprietary Ceratanium, in which IWC has been able to combine the qualities of titanium and ceramic into a single material.

When we started publishing our first high-end watch magazine in 1999, we had only one intention: increasing the popularity of high-quality mechanical watches. Now, many years later, this has not changed at all. In 2017 we have reinvented ourselves to serve our readers in a different and better way. Starting in 2017, the new 0024 is again better equipped to interact with the changing world of high-end watches. The new 0024 HORLOGES magazine (written in Dutch) will be at least a 200 pager: that’s twice the volume of our magazine in the old days.
