Lang & Heyne introduces the Georg with a new rectangular movement

Lang & Heyne Georg
The appearance of the Lang & Heyne Georg is inspired by 1930s German wristwatches.

With just 40 watches a year German watchmaker Lang & Heyne from Dresden needs to pack a punch with unique, artisanal watches to stand out in a vast sea of luxury watches. And it does. With beautiful and original movements for instance. Just like the new Calibre VIII like we see in the Georg.

Artisanal German watchmaker Lang & Heyne yearly output is just 40 watches a year, making it the very little nephew of other brands in the region like A. Lange & Söhne, Glashütte Original and Nomos Glashütte. But this little nephew has ambition based on originality. Have a look at the Lang & Heyne Georg. This watch is named after a 16th century Duke of Saxony and is Lange & Heyne’s first rectangular wristwatch equipped with the rectangular Calibre VIII.

Exhibitionist movement

Calibre VIIIDon’t go looking for a tourbillon here, Calibre VIII is a basic movement but the way it is constructed is anything but basic. Calibre VIII shines in all its wide-open glory. It’s an intriguing, almost exhibitionist movement with narrow steel cocks for the gear train instead of conventional bridges. The beautifully finished long cocks hold the wheels of the gear train, while both the barrel and balance bridges are similarly shaped. The Calibre VIII is a hand-wound movement with a 55-hour power reserve. Pulling the crown activates a lever to the balance wheel, stopping the seconds hand for time-setting. A feature that distinguishes a Lang & Heyne movement is the endstone for the balance staff; it is a small diamond.

1930s inspiration

The dial is white fired enamel and the small seconds are recessed. The appearance of the Georg is inspired by 1930s German wristwatches. The 32mm wide and 40mm long rectangular case is very sophisticated with its fluted sides, sloped bezel and signature triple lugs.  The Georg is available from Lang & Heyne retailers priced at €26,410 for the rose gold model, €27,830 in white gold, and €33,490 in platinum. Prices do not include taxes. For more info visit the Lang & Heyne website.
