On the eve of BaselWorld 2015 Omega, in a separate location, introduced the Globemaster. The watch raised some eyebrows with respect to its appearance – particularly the ‘fluted bezel’ that was very reminiscent of a model used by its major competitor – but also generated whistles of admiration when it came to its movement technology, as the Globemaster is a kind of super-chronometer. The watch is the very first to be fitted with the tested and approved METAS-certified movement. BaselWorld 2016 is the stage for a new super-chronometer that is a chronograph as well – a super-chronochronometer maybe?
The latest METAS-certified watch is called Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer. The manufacture calibre 9904 movement, consisting of 368 components, provides all the functionality and precision. Not only the movement is extremely accurate, so is the photo-realistic moon on the dial. Those who can be bothered to grab a loupe – and what right-minded watch aficionado wouldn’t? – can even discern the footprint of a NASA astronaut! The Omega Speedmaster Moonphase Chronograph Master Chronometer is available in a number of versions including a steel variant with blue dial, blue bezel and blue leather strap. There is also a limited edition in platinum with fiery red details.
