For Omega, it is an important year. The brand supplied NASA with their Speedmaster chronograph to serve on manned space missions and became because of this the first watch worn on the moon.
At the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing Omega launched yet another special watch to commemorate this. As the name already indicates is the new Speedmaster Moonwatch 321 Platinum feature a case crafted from this rare, precious metal. Omega made a very special platinum-alloy, which also contains gold, which is quite uncommon. The result is a beautiful hue that will remain its luster for years to come.
This is not the only part of the new Speedmaster that is enticing. The bezel is made from black ceramic with the tachymeter scale in white enamel, while the dial is made from onyx. The subdials are made from meteorite, as a nod to the space-exploring legacy of the Speedmaster. Inside the case, we find legendary manual-wind caliber 321. This movement has powered each Speedmaster that has ever gone to the moon and Omega recently start remaking this movement again. All combined does it result in a Speedmaster that is as luxurious and exclusive as it is functional, making it the perfect way to mark such a special occasion.
