A comeback can be a risky thing. Take ‘old’ football players for instance who at the end of their careers abroad return to their first club out of love. But love doesn’t win football matches. Girard-Perregaux last SIHH appearance was in 2012 and this year the brand made its comeback. And what a surprisingly strong return it was!
Biggest star of the 2017 line-up is the GP 1966 ww.tc. The Girard Perregaux ww.tc stems from a legend. The original World Wide Time Control watch also featured a chronograph and stood out because of its looks and its functionality; a clear dial and a chronograph which makes for a great device for the experienced traveller and its two characteristic crowns on either side of the case soon made it one of the maison’s most recognizable models.
The ww.tc is now introduced as part of their classic 1966 collection and is a simpler and more affordable version. The world time function is still there but the chronograph is deleted. With the chrono gone the dial is now cleaner making the clarity and legibility even better.
Automatic movement GP c.3300
A rotating 24-hour disc surrounding the chapter ring features two black/white semi-circles to tell day from night. Settings are performed via the two crowns at 9 and 3 o’clock: the first serves to position the reference city at noon; and the second to adjust the hours and minutes – with which the 24-hour disc is automatically synchronised. The 1966 ww.tc is powered by the in-house automatic movement GP c.3300 and fitted with an additional module developed in-house. Travellers can enjoy a 46-hour power reserve. The Girard-Perregaux 1966 ww.tc is available in two versions: one in pink gold with a black alligator leather strap; and the other in steel.
